The Mango Lemonade flavor will have your taste buds dancing and you can rest easy knowing it is all natural without any artificial sweeteners or flavoring.
For around a month, I experimented with Swolverine PRE. It was effective in enhancing my energy levels and concentration. Additionally, it had a pleasant taste. The only anticipated side effect was a slight tingling sensation from the beta-alanine.
This is definitely one to consider.
Pros

- Transparent label
- Stimulant-Free
Cons

#3 Nitrosurge Shred by Jacked Factory
Best Pre-Workout for Weight Loss Budget Pick

NitroSurge Shred, a product of Jacked Factory, is a pre-workout that really stands out from the crowd. It’s not just impressive, it’s also backed by solid science. That means you’re getting the full dosage and utmost effectiveness each time you use it. And the cherry on top? It’s quite reasonably priced.
This thermogenic pre-workout takes your metabolism up a notch and stokes the thermogenesis fires to help you shed fat. When you add in the increased focus and concentration it gives you during your workouts, you’re looking at lean muscle gains and fat loss happening simultaneously. Plus, NitroSurge is packed with all the top-tier ingredients you’d want in a pre-workout, including Beta-Alanine, L-Citrulline, and Bioperine, all in ample doses.
Every NitroSurge package you pick up is free of fillers, food dyes, preservatives, and artificial flavors. It’s just pure, premium ingredients that translate to significant performance boosts and tangible gains. To top it off, it’s made right here in the US and the label lays everything out clearly, so you know exactly what you’re putting into your body.
When it comes to taste, I gave the watermelon flavor of NitroSurge a try. It mixes well, but I’ll be honest, it’s a bit on the bitter side and leaves a bit of an aftertaste. So, the flavor might be something you need to get used to. But when I tried it before a strength training session, the benefits were clear as day – solid energy boost, and not a jitter in sight.
In a nutshell, NitroSurge offers fantastic value for the price. You might find cheaper fat loss pre-workouts out there, but they don’t quite measure up in terms of quality.

- One of the best thermogenic pre-workout supplements
- Absolute transparency with labeling
- Bioavailable ingredients for better efficacy
- Solid dose of l-citrulline
- Great all-around pre-workout and fat-burning supplement

Powher is like that energetic friend who motivates you to hit the gym even when you’re not in the mood. It’s a powerful pre-workout supplement designed especially for us ladies. Its primary job is to help you drop the extra weight and melt away that stubborn fat that just won’t budge. It does this by cranking up your body’s thermogenesis, basically turning you into a fat-burning machine. Cool, right?
But Powher isn’t a one-trick pony. Nope, it’s also there to make sure you bring your A-game to every workout. It’s like having an extra shot of espresso without the jitters, giving you the focus and energy to smash your personal bests and leave the gym feeling like a warrior. And guess what? So, if you’re a woman looking to tone up, stay energized, and totally rock your workouts, Powher could be just what you’ve been searching for.
Now, about the taste and texture… Powher is pretty average. It tastes okay, not like candy but also not like medicine. It mixes fairly well, but it’s not exactly a milkshake either.
One of the things I absolutely loved about Powher, though, is that it didn’t give me any jitters. You know, that shaky, over-caffeinated feeling some pre-workouts leave you with? None of that with Powher. And the tingling sensation some people feel?
Just a mild tingle with this one. That makes Powher a great option if you want a pre-workout that’s effective without feeling like you’ve had ten cups of coffee. All in all, Powher is like that dependable friend who’s always there to support you on your fitness journey.
Pros
- Made for women
- Generous doses of vitamin B6 and vitamin B12
- Has a sour taste that’s better than most pre-workout supplements
- Uses coconut water powder for hydration

#6 C4 Ripped by Cellucor
Best for Weight Loss That is Widely Available
Specs
Price per serving | $1.33 |
Flavors | Fruit Punch, Cherry Limade, Icy Blue Razz, Raspberry Lemonade |
Key ingredients | Citrulline Malate, Beta-Alanine, Grains of Paradise, L-Carnitine, Caffeine, Green Coffee Bean, Cayenne Pepper |
Third-party tested? | Yes |
Benefits | Energy, Fat Burning |
Artificial Ingredients | Yes |
If you want a good fat-burning pre-workout that is easy to find then C4 Ripped by Cellucor is a fine choice. You can find it on Amazon at the link above. It is also at Walmart and most any store that sells supplements.
C4 Ripped is a pre-workout powder that comes in 6 unique flavors. While the official website lists the flavoring (Tropical Punch, Icy Blue Razz and others), there’s not much in terms of essential ingredients. What C4 Ripped has going for it though is that it’s marketed as a pre-workout designed to cut fat instead of muscle. The Cutting Formula contains L-Carnitine, Green Coffee Bean Extract, Capsimax and Coleus Extract for effective burning.
C4 Ripped does not contain Creatine monohydrate, which is actually a bulking agent. If your focus is more on cutting instead of growing, then C4 may be for you. For those who tried C4, they will more or less experience the same energy-boosting effects of the original.
Out of all the pre-workouts I’ve experimented with, this particular one provided me with the most significant energy boost and enhanced my focus. However, I did encounter a tingling sensation, which can be considered a mixed bag. Although this powder dissolves easily, I found the Fruit Punch flavor to be quite synthetic and excessively sweet for my taste.
Pros
- Easy to find
- 150 mg dose of caffeine for increased energy
- Uses a solid 500 mcg dose of vitamin B6
- Doesn’t use creatine monohydrate
Cons
- Has a proprietary blend
- Uses artificial sweeteners
- Expensive
#7 Edge Of Insanity
Best Pre-Workout with High Energy for Weight Loss
Specs
Price per serving | $1.79 |
Flavors | Black Ice, Blue Lemonade, Cherry Bomb, Jungle Juice |
Key ingredients | Citrulline Malate, Beta-Alanine, Taurine, Yohimbe, Caffeine, GABA, DiCaffeine Malate |
Third-party tested? | Yes |
Benefits | Energy, Muscular Endurance, Muscle Pumps, Fat Burning |
Artificial Ingredients | No |
If you are looking for a lot of energy in a pre-workout, then Edge of Insanity may be your best choice. This bad boy will have you bouncing off the walls and ready to smash your workout.
Where does the energy come from? This product has a hefty 350mg of caffeine along with 70mg of dicaffeine malate and 5mg of Yohimbe, which will have you working out like your hair is on fire.
Edge of Insanity also uses a hefty 8mg dose of citrulline malate, so you will definitely feel some increased muscle pumps and vascularity.
For weight loss, they use Yohimbe, which doubles as an energy booster and a metabolism booster.
The price on this product is pretty nice, too, compared to some others on this list. They don’t offer any savings when you buy in bulk, but 1 tub isn’t too expensive,
The energy boost was definitely noticeable with this one, and so were the muscle pumps. This is one of the only pre-workouts I have used that made a difference when it came to pumps. The taste of the Spike Punch was strong, some might not like it.
Pros
- Provides large energy boost
- Large dose of citrulline malate for muscle pumps
- Inexpensive
Cons
- Nor for beginners
- May be too much caffeine for some
- Missing key thermogenic ingredients

Imagine having a brain boost to help you perform even better during your workout – that’s what Genius Burn promises. This supplement is like a secret weapon if you’re aiming to get that extra edge in the gym. It comes loaded with ingredients like Citicholine, Ashwagandha, and L-Theanine, all of which have been scientifically proven to enhance your mental performance.
But Genius Burn isn’t just about the brainpower; it’s got your fat-burning needs covered too. With thermogenic compounds like Capsimax Powder and Huperzine A, it works to help you shed those unwanted pounds.
However, if you’re someone who’s used to traditional pre-workout ingredients, Genius Burn might not be what you’re expecting. It’s more of a hybrid, part fat burner and part nootropic, rather than a typical pre-workout formula.
One of the best things about Genius Burn is that it’s caffeine-free, which is great news if you’re someone who’s sensitive to stimulants. No more worrying about jittery side effects that can disrupt your workout.
In terms of cost, Genius Burn sits comfortably in the middle of the pack. It doesn’t offer any bulk buying deals, but there’s a silver lining – you can bag yourself a 15% discount if you sign up for a subscription.
When I put Genius Burn to the test, I noticed it did a solid job at keeping those hunger pangs at bay, and I didn’t experience any jitters at all. The taste is pretty good, and it blends well too. All in all, Genius Burn gets a thumbs up from me.
Pros
- Caffeine-free
- Solid brain-boosting ingredients
- Uses Capsimax powder
- Boosts mental clarity
Cons
- More of a fat burner supplement than a pre-workout
#9 RSP Aminolean Vegan Formula

Third-party tested? | Yes |
Benefits | Energy, Fat Burning |
Artificial Ingredients | Yes |
If you are a vegan, this pre-workout might be right up your alley as it is the best pre-workout for weight loss for vegans.
Each dose contains 5 grams of vegan amino acids, which are essential for building proteins and improving performance. Some also have antioxidant properties to protect the body against disease while enhancing certain factors like strength or endurance training in athletes.
Aminolean contains a natural energy and focus blend that provides 130mg of caffeine from fermented tea, matcha leaves. We like seeing a pre-workout with lower caffeine content like this; not everyone wants over 300 mg of caffeine.
This pre-workout also features a weight management blend that uses proven thermogenic ingredients like green tea, green coffee bean extract, CLA and L-carnitine.
On the negative side, this pre-workout uses a proprietary blend to shield how much of each ingredient is in the product, so we have no idea if they used the correct dosing or skimped on some things.
When I tried out Amino Lean I really liked the taste of the Acai and how well it mixed. I only noticed a slight tingle with this one which some of you will appreciate. There wasn’t much of an energy boost with this one either.
Pros
- Vegan friendly
- Loaded with branched-chain amino acids
- No artificial flavoring
- Less expensive
Cons
- Uses a proprietary blend
- Only 25 servings per tub
- Not the most potent pre-workout

How We Decided
When it comes to ranking the best pre-workout powders for weight loss, we took several factors into consideration.
These are:
Ingredients – If you want to lose those extra pounds, you need more than the typical pre-workout ingredients. The pre-workout formula needs to have thermogenic compounds to help you with fat loss.
Dosage: After you have the right ingredients, you need to ensure they don’t skimp on the dosages. Some manufacturers use solid ingredients, but the dose is too low for it to be effective. Any low-dose pre-workouts didn’t make the list.
Price: When ranking these thermogenic pre-workouts, we also considered price. It wouldn’t make sense to spend $100 on a weak and ineffective product. That said, you usually get what you pay for.
Manufacturer Reputation – We also only rank pre-workout formulas from well-known and reputable brands. This ensures you’re getting a quality product.
Customer Reviews: Finally, we looked at what customers had to say about these products. We read hundreds of reviews to get a feel for what people liked and didn’t like about each product.

What Do Pre-Workout Supplements Do?
A pre-workout supplement, or more commonly known as a “pre-workout”, is basically a powder drink mix or a pill that contains the necessary ingredients you need to gain improved performance while working out at the gym.
The “pre” in pre-workout means that you should take the supplement beforehand, usually 15 to 30 minutes before you start pumping iron or exercising.
It’s safe to say that no two pre-workouts are alike. The reason behind this is that each pre-workout has its own set of ingredients that help in various aspects of physical performance. For example, pre-workout A may offer improved muscle pump and limitless energy while pre-workout B may offer increased metabolism and optimized burning of stubborn fat.
To make the most of pre-workouts, you’ll need to take a closer look at the list of ingredients and see if it works with or against your gym goals.
Currently, the best pre-workouts contain any or all of the following ingredients- Citrulline Malate, Betaine Anhydrous, Beta-Alanine, Mucuna Pruriens, N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine and BioPerine. Let’s break down each ingredient and see how they can help burn fat in the quickest way possible.
What Are Thermogenic Pre-Workouts?
Thermogenic pre-workouts are designed to boost energy, increase mental focus and also enhance fat loss. They typically contain a combination of ingredients like caffeine, green tea extract, and L-Carnitine which can increase thermogenesis. or the production of body heat. This increase in body heat can boost your metabolism and lead to weight loss.
Some prefer thermogenic pre-workout as a way to get them through a tough workout or to boost energy levels while burning fat.
It’s important to remember to eat a healthy diet with a calorie deficit if you are looking to lose weight, simply taking a weight loss supplement by itself won’t work.

Side Effects with Pre-Workouts
There are a few potential side effects that come with taking pre-workout drinks. The most common ones include:
Jitters: Some people may experience jitters from the caffeine in their pre-workout. This is usually not a big deal, but if it becomes bothersome, you can try switching to a lower dose or a different supplement. Some pre-workouts have as much as 600mg of caffeine, that much can jitter your brains out.
Nausea: Some people may experience nausea from the ingredients in their pre-workout supplement. If you get an upset stomach try a smaller dose,
Headaches: Headaches are another common side effect of pre-workouts. If you experience headaches, try taking a smaller dose and consult a physician.
Dehydration: Dehydration is a risk with any workout supplement, but it is especially important to be aware of it with a pre-workout. This is because many of them contain ingredients that can cause you to sweat more than usual. Make sure to drink plenty of water when taking a pre-workout supplement.
Ingredients that may cause these side effects include caffeine, beta-alanine, and citrulline. If you experience any of these side effects, try taking a lower dose or consult a physician.
Another way to avoid these side effects is to go with a stim-free pre-workout. Caffeine-free pre-workouts are still very good. They just don’t give you increased energy, but having fewer side effects can be worth it.
When To Take A Pre-Workout Supplement
Planning to hit the gym and wondering when to take that pre-workout? Aim for 30 to 60 minutes before you start. It gives your body time to soak up all those good ingredients like caffeine and beta-alanine. If you’re going for one of those heavy-duty, high-dose supplements, you might even want to take it a bit earlier for easier digestion. But hey, if you’re a warm-up enthusiast, adjust the timing so you’re peaking right when you’re done stretching.
Now, for all you night owls, be careful with the caffeinated stuff. It can stay in your system for up to nine hours. So, if you’re downing a 300mg caffeine blend in the evening, you might find yourself wide-eyed when you should be snoozing. Just something to think about.
Should You Dry Scoop A Pre-Workout?
So, you’ve probably seen some of your favorite social media personalities on TikTok or Instagram dry-scooping pre-workout powder, right? They take a scoop of the stuff and put it straight into their mouths. But here’s the deal: it’s not the best idea and can actually be quite risky.
A lot of pre-workout supplements are loaded with caffeine, and when you mix them with water, it gives your body a chance to digest and handle it slowly. If you’re dry-scooping, you might end up with a caffeine rush that’s way too intense. We’re talking jitters, upset stomach, and a faster than normal heart rate.
While the speed at which you take in the caffeine is one thing to consider, the amount you ingest is an even bigger deal. Dry-scooping one or two scoops typically gives you between 150 to 300mg of caffeine. That’s not toxic in the short-term, but a toxic dose would be 20 to 40mg per kilogram of body weight. That’s roughly 1,800 to 2,000mg for someone weighing 200 pounds.
But that’s not all. There are other hazards with dry scooping. For instance, you could actually choke on the powder, which is not a fun situation to find yourself in. That’s why the instructions tell you to mix the pre-workout powder with water in your shaker bottle. They’re there for a reason, so it’s best to follow them.
Best Pre-Workout Ingredients
When you look at the ingredients list of any of the best pre-workout fat burner supplements for fat loss these are the ingredients to look for. Here are some common pre-workout ingredients to look for.
Citrulline Malate
Earlier studies indicated that around five grams of citrulline, an amino acid abundant in watermelons, could potentially enhance circulation and thus improve various performance metrics, such as stamina and power.
However, newer meta-analysis data are throwing cold water on that idea, suggesting citrulline might not actually boost performance. There’s been a mix of outcomes in various meta-analyses, but any benefits appear to be quite limited.
Betaine Anhydrous
Unbeknownst to some, Betaine Anhydrous has been making the rounds in the healthcare industry as an excellent heart medicine even before it was introduced in pre-workout supplements.
This is an ingredient that you can find in most pre-workout supplements on the market as well, Preseries Lean has a generous 1500mg dose.. In the gym, it improves the overall body composition and performance of your muscles.
Betaine anhydrous increases strength as well as fat loss when taken in the right dosages. It has also been shown to reduce muscle fatigue so you can train harder for longer. (2.3)
Beta Alanine
Beta-alanine is a key amino acid that does a lot of good things for you. Aside from reducing fatigue during strenuous exercise sessions, this compound extends physical endurance considerably, allowing you to train harder and smash plateaus.
The amino acid’s chain of mechanism is its ability to be easily converted into carnosine. As you may know, carnosine directly helps lessen muscle fatigue by reducing lactic acid buildup. In simple terms, you won’t feel the burn as much and therefore, can continue pushing until your muscles give out.
Beta-alanine also provides the tingly feeling you get from pre-workout supplements (which I personally find annoying) and has also been shown to increase lean muscle mass and significantly reduce fat mass in wrestlers. (4)
N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine
N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine or NALT helps stave off the effects of “brain fog” and stress by working on the many neurotransmitters found in your brain.(7)
First, Tyrosine is one precursor to essential hormones such as thyroid, epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine. Pre-workout supplements that contain NALT act as a sort of nootropic to keep you working calm and steady during times of extreme stress, i.e., fatigue from working out, post-workout recovery, etc.
Users of NALT supplement can concentrate and focus more each workout session, which really adds to the pump and overall results. Higher workout efficiency means more fat burned, and more fat burned equals a slimmer, fitter you.
BioPerine
Bioperine is an oft-overlooked component in pre-workouts, but don’t underestimate what it can do.
BioPerine is a trademarked name for Piperine, which comes from Piper Longum L and Piper Nigrum L. It’s a sort of synergistic ingredient that works very well when combined with other ingredients in this list.
For one, Bioperine improves the absorption rate of nutrients that you consume via bioenhancement. It’s one of the best components for losing body weight as it naturally encourages thermogenesis, a process that increases your body’s internal temperature and breaks down fat cells.
When combined with regular exercise, you’ll be able to lose weight at a faster pace and achieve your goal sooner.
You also get a stronger immune system, improved memory, and heightened mental skills in the process. It’s too good to pass up, especially if you’re on a weight loss program.
Tyrosine
Tyrosine is commonly known for its potential to boost focus. Research indicates that this amino acid might help alleviate intense stress, such as that induced by exercise, by aiding in the production of adrenaline and dopamine.
The studies conducted so far have involved individuals consuming at least 5 grams of tyrosine, but the minimum effective dose is still up in the air. Nonetheless, aiming for at least 500 milligrams in your pre-workout could be beneficial.(8)
For optimal results, consider taking between 100 to 150mg of tyrosine per kilogram of body weight about an hour before your workout. However, bear in mind that hefty doses can potentially upset your stomach, so splitting the dosage might be a wise move to avoid any discomfort.
What to Avoid in a Pre-Workout Supplement
Now that you know what to look for, here are some no-no’s when you’re choosing the right pre-workout supplement for maximum weight loss.
Under-Dosed Ingredients. It’s essential to have the dosage for each ingredient just right to get 100% potency. Under-dosing can save the product manufacturer money at the expense of user experience. Moreover, under-dosed ingredients may not work for those with larger bodies.
Artificial Flavoring and Colors. Anything artificial is bad for your body and health. What’s worse is the fact that artificial compounds can interfere with the mechanisms of the ingredients as they’re absorbed into your system. Stay away from supplements that contain artificial elements and stick to all-natural, organic compounds for peace of mind.
Proprietary Blends. Unscrupulous companies often put their ingredients under a unique proprietary blend, but there’s more to it than a trade secret. These nasty little things are a marketing scheme that hide potentially dangerous, artificial or risky compounds they couldn’t list; otherwise, users would shy away from the supplement. Do thorough research and find the exact list of ingredients before buying pre-workout supplements.
My Experience With Pre-Workout Supplements
I know a lot of people out there swear by pre-workout supplements, but in full transparency, I don’t really use them all that often.
I’ve never really been into taking massive doses of caffeine to get the energy to workout, and I don’t like that beta-alanine tingle either.
For me, the best pre-workout would be a stimulant-free one with creatine to help build muscle and strength.
I get the appeal of pre-workout supplements, but they really aren’t necessary in order to help you reach your goals.
Can they help? Yes. Do you need them? No
FAQs
Can You Build Up A Tolerance To Pre Workouts?
Sure, you definitely can build a tolerance to pre-workout supplements. Much like your morning cup of joe doesn’t quite hit the spot after you’ve been regularly consuming it for a while, it’s the same story with pre-workouts. The main culprit here is usually caffeine, which is commonly found in many pre-workout blends.
Caffeine, being a stimulant, is something our bodies can grow accustomed to over time. So, the noticeable spike in energy levels and the heightened sense of focus you initially experienced might begin to fade. This can feel like your pre-workout is losing its mojo, but it’s actually your body getting used to the stimulant rush.
To avoid this, it’s often suggested to ‘cycle’ your pre-workout intake. This basically means that you take regular breaks from using your pre-workout to allow your body a chance to reset and shake off any tolerance it might have built up.
Every individual is unique, so what works for one person might not work for the next. It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on how your body reacts and adjust your routine accordingly. Remember, the goal is to optimize your workouts, not to become reliant on a supplement to get you through them.
Wrap Up
Wrapping it up, finding the perfect pre-workout to aid your weight loss journey can feel a bit like navigating a maze. But once you know what to look for – a good mix of energy boosters, fat burners, and focus enhancers – the journey becomes significantly easier. It’s key to remember that supplements are tools designed to help you reach your goals, but they can’t replace a well-balanced diet and regular, consistent exercise. It’s equally crucial to listen to your body and adjust as necessary, since everyone’s reaction to pre-workouts can be different.
So whether you’re all for a caffeine-powered kick or a milder, stimulant-free option, there’s a pre-workout out there to suit your needs and help you on your weight loss journey. At the end of the day, the ‘best’ pre-workout is the one that works best for you. Happy lifting and here’s to reaching your fitness goals!

I disagree with some of the pick on here but you definitely got the top choice right. I’ve gone through a few tubs of Lean and love it. Lost about 20 lbs with it and have kept it off. I also like the taste of it. I tested a few flavors and have settled on Sour Grape being the best.
That said idk why you guys have the swolverine pre-workout in second place. That should not be there at all.
LEAN worked awesome as a pre-workout and for weight loss, great product. Thanks for the recommendation.
